Rope Walk

Whenever I'm in Penang I feel like it's not complete without visiting this place. Located at Lorong Kulit, somewhere near the Penang Hospital, the Jail and of course next to the City Stadium. It's a no fancy place. It's only a flea market where antiques, used household goods are sold. You can also find new electrical goods, clothes, textiles, 'amazing' traditional medicines, cosmetics, fruits, shoes, secondhand cellphones, used porcelain plates and even Buddha Statue! 'Weird' place huh? And you can find weird people too. There are a lot of stalls, the last time I went there was last Thursday, it wasn't too packed compared to Sundays where you can find more stalls and more people. The stuffs sold are cheap, just do a good bargain.

I don't know why I like to go there. I think my cousins got better reasons, cause they mostly do too. I remember my late Grand pa used to to buy the antique goods. He got the used fan, the old charcoal iron, an old radio. My funny grand pa. I'm not sure why, but I guess he just liked to collect those stuffs and let my late Grand ma find place to keep them. If they're broken he simply fixed them. Sometimes those stuffs just didn't look presentable, like they're supposed to be trashed instead of  purchased or reused. But if you're an antique goods collector, you may appreciate these more.

Holiday Mood Part 2

So I'm now at the office. This morning DH babbled again because I manage to collect, I mean collect, not arrange all my clothes inside the bag. They were high, just didn't fit in the bag. I said I'm going to put them properly once I get back home. He said it's better to bring the whole wardrobe. Understanding me, now it's no wonder he babbles a lot, right?

Suddenly I remembered that I have to bring along my wedding crown. I'm lending it to my cousin for her engagement on the second raya. Couldn't find the red box where I kept the crown, I asked DH whether he had come accross to it. He uttered "Are you going to wear the crown as well?" with this surprised expression. LOL.

It's now 3 AM in the morning and I'm busy ironing clothes and packing. Tomorrow I'll be working the whole day as usual. And in the evening we'll be leaving for Penang. yay! DH is already on leave. He's nervous that I may not be able to pack my bags, knowing that I haven't started preparing almost every thing.

DH: I don't think you need to work tomorrow
Me: I can't, I have meeting in the afternoon
DH: Then ask somebody to substitute for you
Me: I can't, because I am the chairperson

And tomorrow's going to be a bit hectic for me. I have my work target to finish before Raya. And I'm going to finish them all by tomorrow and yet I have to be back home earlier or I'll be reaching home looking at the unhappy-husband's face.

Luckily we have bought ikan terubuk, kek lapis sarawak and we have also given raya gifts to the baby's teachers. Luckily I have cleaned the whole house last weekend. I know there's no relevant between cleaning the house and leaving outstation for raya. Well, it's just not me leaving my house without cleaning it. Because I like to enter a clean cheerful house. lol. That's what's been babbled by DH. I should have packed my things earlier, NOT doing other things.

By the way, our neighbour will help to water our plant.

Ok, I'm not focusing I shouldn't be posting any entry at this time.

School Sports and Family Day

I feel like it took me ages to post everything this. So it was Sheraz's School Sports and Family Day. His Smart Care nursery and the nearby Smart Reader pre-school are under the same management. They have this event annually. Of course as for us this was our first time.

Sheraz and other babies under two years old wore this bumble bee costumes. Even though it was their sports day, they didn't take part in any of the games. They were there just like mascots.

They arranged a few games for parents too, such as futsal for mommies, treasure hunt and a lot more. They called me to join a so called beauty contest. We had to apply make-up BUT the husbands had to do the work. Imagine how afraid I was when they asked DH to do the touch up on my face. He didn't even know what eye shadow and blush on are and didn't have the idea how to apply them! The foundation was too much, but it turned out to be not so bad cause he sneaked a bit what some of the guys did. Once everyone's done, we had to do a little catwalk pose in front of the juries. Embarrassing however it was fun. We didn't win but I still got a prize, a goodie bag of free cosmetics.

.. and after all the efforts DH had put, I was forced to join this game. And everthing was so messy. But again it was fun.

Oh well one more thing, guess what, the 'mascot' always got a fan. In this photo they were trying to pose for a picture. Notice that, this fast little boy got this lady's chocolate in his hand.

What a day :D

Archidex 2010

I know it was nearly three weeks ago but I just decided to share some pictures taken during Archidex, an exciting architectural exhibition where you can find the latest trend of building materials. That's what they claim. But seriously it was. I got too excited. There were sanitary wares, roof finishes, cladding, ceiling, light fittings, paint, doors, windows, glasses, decorative features, you name it. As for me, I love the floor finishes part and wall tiles. And how they showed their products were brilliant. There are more pictures but I'm too lazy tired to upload. Oh yes, I met a lot of my ex uni-mates! It was like a reunion. However, will show the pictures some other time :D

Venue: KLCC.

Thanks for looking~

Meeting Mohammad Don Sheraz

We just came back from a conference called Datum. As you can see it's an international design forum which is held annually. It's kind of a big event for architects and designers. I've been working for nearly three years now but this is my first time of having the chance to go. I'm grateful that DH is in the same profession as I am, not only he understands the nature of my work life, we also share knowledge and a lot of things let's say, in the same language (but luckily we don't work at the same place or else we'd be dying of boredom). Although it'd be cool if he's a doctor or banker cause I'd have known other things too. Anyway, he also joined the conference, and yes we flew together.

So now what's the relevant of meeting Sheraz? Well it started because of this issue, where he rejects to take formula. Up to now we've tried eight different brands of milk but none suited him. I guess he won't take whatever milk he's offered unless if it's what he's having now which is very limited. He's still exclusively breastfed and my supply is just not enough for a few day stock. So of course he had to follow us. Then once again, luckily DH went along.

[ Happy boy on flight ]

It's a good opportunity to meet relatives from my mother's side. They have never met the baby. Imagine how sad it is. Thanks to the kindness of my aunty Mak Yah who volunteered to baby-sit him with the help of my cousins Raihana and Ezra. Our conference was on Friday and Saturday, so Mak Yah was forcedly willingly to take a one day leave.

Then on Saturday night she invited all family members in KL for a dinner plus gathered to meet the little one. Not everyone managed to come though. InsyaAllah we'll get to see the rest in Penang this coming raya.

And so we took a few snaps of family portraits.

Rashard and his Fairy Godmother, kak Wina

Then on Sunday night before leaving for Kuching we visited tokcik Nab (my late grand ma's sister) and tokcik Harun.

The last time I met most of them was 2 years ago. Next time we will need to prepare a proper planning for a holiday. InsyaAllah. Now I'm asking myself this question why am I living far from everyone.

Holiday

Last weekend we had a blast holiday! DH got an office trip to Sematan. Sematan is about 130 km from Kuching. Roughly it's about one and a half to two hour drive from our place. It is a fishing village located at the far west tip of Sarawak, facing the South China Sea.

Each family drove themselves there. I mean, no bus lah. But DH and his -the so called Legstrong team- transported themselves by bike. For them it was a long four hour trip. Yup, they really dared rode themselves to exhaustion.

So, he left me and Sheraz. I mean this is the longest trip I and Sheraz ever did. A quite far in distance with ONLY me and him. Normally if we drive together with the baby, one of us can take turn carry him when he cries. But this time I didn't have a 'back-up' so I just had to deal with it.

We left on Saturday 11.54AM while DH already left before the dawn. It was only a one night stay, but the stuffs I brought were quite a lot. (There were more to stuff in the car boot.)

Only after fifteen minutes of driving Sheraz screamed. He wanted to drink. Then I had to stop somewhere since I didn't want to have a screaming baby accompanying me for almost two hours. That was the first time I nursed him at the driver seat! (Look where the baby parked his foot on.)

Once done we continued driving, of course I was happy with a BIG peace of mind. But just when I thought about it he screamed again. This time I knew he was sleepy. Normally if he's full he'd easily get sleepy and cranky. There's no way I can pull the car off again when it was nearly 1:45PM, so what I did was I gave him this magic bite.

And look, he's getting really sleepy. But this smart baby kept on fighting his sleep. He still had the crackers and wanted more even when he's so much drowsy.

Finally he slept, and with this in his hand. I just let he had it. No way I'd wake him up by removing those from his hand. And he had also some messy leftovers on his face. Gross I know.

It was raining so heavy. I laughed at the baby (evil kan) cause he was finally asleep and bunda won!

Guess what, ten minutes passed, I heard him crying - AGAIN. and suddenly I heard a massive explosion from his little 'lower'. What AGAIN? He just pooped. I was worried how I was supposed to change the diaper in the car and when it's raining heavily and there's no R&R (this is not North-South highway!).

Lucky for me, he was back to sleep. And so I gaily drove my way to Sematan :D

The rain stopped when we were almost there. Look at the hill with the mist. (DH would be mad at me when he knew I'd been taking pictures while driving 90-100 km per hour.)

And below are pictures when we're there. Sheraz was so excited, and he slept for a quite long hours. We even had to wake him up the next day for breakfast. By the way, we got him swim in the beach too! Well, ten minutes only. Sheraz is still a baby anyway. And we don't want him to be exposed to sun too much. The good thing is he now doesn't sneeze whilst out in sunlight.

Both got sunburn. How about bunda? never ask! :D
